Mosaic World
Community

At Mosaic World, we bring together the physical and the social: we don’t just build with bricks, we build communities too. A building provides shelter, but it is the relationships between residents and with the neighbourhood that make it a real home. That is why the Mosaic World Community was created! Through activities, events and facilities, we bring residents together and create an environment where everyone feels welcome and at home.

Living with a focus on community

Within our organisation, we work with a range of housing concepts, from students and young professionals to refugees and international workers. Although the target groups differ, we always share the same vision: to create a safe, inclusive and connected living environment where residents feel at home.

With Plaza Resident Services, we focus on students and young professionals. Many of them are starting out in a new city or a new country with us, living on their own for the first time. By focusing on community building, we give them not just a new house, but above all a home, so that their time with us is as enjoyable as possible.

Monoma manages, amongst other things, temporary accommodation for refugees, status holders and other vulnerable groups. Many of them have had to leave their homes behind and are now trying to build a new future in a new country. Through Mosaic World Community, we help them find their place in society, get to know Dutch culture and feel at home in their new living environment as quickly as possible.

Despite these differences, the common thread is clear: residents are starting out in a new environment and need connection, relaxation and a sense of community.

The importance of
connection

Social connection is essential for everyone. By actively focusing on community building, we contribute to:

  • encouraging social interaction

  • increasing the willingness to help one another

  • promoting respect between residents and their local community

  • reducing loneliness

A strong community forms the basis for a pleasent living experience and contributes to residents' well-being.

From vision to practice

The strength of our approach lies in applying a single, clear vision to different types of housing. We translate this vision into concrete actions within both Plaza Resident Services and Monoma sites. We encourage interaction and connection by organising and facilitating a variety of activities. In addition, we provide resources on site that foster social connection.

This approach is reflected in the Mosaic World Community projects.

Some practical examples

Meet Your Neighbour

Every year, Plaza Resident Services welcomes thousands of new residents. During the ‘Meet Your Neighbour’ events, residents get to know one another in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, which helps to ensure a warm welcome and strong social bonds.

National Neighbours' Day

During Neighbours’ Day 2025, we joined forces with residents from our accommodation centres for Ukrainian refugees to hand out plants in the neighbourhood, as a token of appreciation for the warm welcome they had received. This led to many unexpected encounters, lovely conversations and connections between the residents and local residents.

Community resources

To create physical spaces that foster a sense of community, at Plaza Resident Services we install features such as picnic tables and bookcases in our estates, and provide communal areas that encourage residents to come together, relax and connect in a natural and accessible way.

Compliment Day

For Compliment Day 2026, we designed special compliment cards that residents could take away free of charge, on which they could write a personal message for someone else. This accessible initiative helped to strengthen the sense of community.

St Nicholas

Every year, we welcome St Nicholas and his helpers to introduce our residents to Dutch culture and traditions. This provides a valuable cultural experience and helps to foster integration into society.

Recycling old bicycles

By collecting and donating old, unwanted bicycles, Mosaic World Community is also contributing to sustainability. We give these bicycles a new lease of life by donating them to a charitable partner.
