''I love working together with people and I always try to help everyone as much as possible. Sometimes my colleague Sergio says I'm too kind because I want to help everyone, but that's exactly what gives me satisfaction in this job,'' Gilbert says with a smile. Where he started with cleaning duties in the residential complex 3.5 years ago, he has now advanced to caretaker. ''Among other things, I deal with move-ins, cleaning and monitoring general order. No day is the same, and that makes the work so much fun!''
A close-knit and proud team
In the beginning, Gilbert was the only caretaker at the complex, but as six more new buildings have been added in recent years, there are now four of them in the team. ''We are a close-knit team. Sergio has become a good friend, and Patrick and Anastacia help me with all kinds of tasks,'' he says. ''We can always count on each other and that makes working together enjoyable.''
Gilbert is proud of what he and the team have achieved together. ''When I started, we worked in three buildings, and now we manage nine,'' he says with a smile. ''The complex has improved tremendously and I am really proud of the work we have put in here. Together, we provide a nice living environment for our residents.''
A new opportunity
For Gilbert, his job as a caretaker is more than that. Before joining Mosaic World, he experienced a difficult time in his life, even living on the streets in recent years. ''After a tumultuous time, I was offered housing and a job. I now have a permanent contract, and that gives me a lot of stability, security and peace of mind.''
